Photos taken by satellite imaging company BlackSky and US space technology company Maxar on May 16 show two Russian fighter jets burned on the main runway at Belbek air base in the city.

Satellite images also showed one building destroyed nearby and another building with significant damage.

Mr. Mikhail Razvozhaev, Governor of Sevastopol appointed by Russia, said on May 17 that Russia `successfully repelled a large-scale enemy attack on Sevastopol`.

According to him, Razvozhaev `dozens` of drones and `more than five unmanned boats were destroyed`.

This is the second attack on Russia’s Belbek base in the past 48 hours.

The Atesh movement claimed after the second attack that an artillery depot at the Belbek base had been damaged.

`There was significant damage to airport infrastructure due to the explosions,` Atesh said.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that Moscow’s air defense forces intercepted missiles of the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) provided by the US to Ukraine during the raid on Crimea.

Belbek Air Base in the city of Sevastopol is currently home to many modern fighter aircraft including Su-27 and Su-30 as well as MiG-31.
