You are more likely to die from eating rice than in a plane crash.
And half of those accidents happen during a very short period of the trip.
Takeoff and landing are considered the most dangerous parts of flight.
The preparation, takeoff, and getting the plane into the air only takesĀ about 2% of the entire flight, but it causes up to 14% of fatal accidents.
Finally comes theĀ landing phase.
So what’s going on here?
The problem lies in time.
If you are in the air, at an altitude of kilometers above the ground, a pilot will have a lot of time and space to correct mistakes.
But if the problem occurs on the ground, the amount of time it takes to deal with it is minimal.
When the plane is accelerating on the runway, at a speed of more than 160 km/h, everything happens very quickly.
When landing, the plane’s speed was slowed down, but that was also the most dangerous time.
To be able to land, the pilot needs to contact air traffic control and be directed to the appropriate runway.
Statistics may be scary, but scientists still insist flying is the safest way to travel.
