According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Ukraine in the first 3 months of 2024 suffered a large loss of military weapons systems provided by the West.
According to Mr. Shoigu, Ukraine has lost 6 HIMARS complexes and 5 Patriot air defense system launchers since the beginning of this year.
The US has provided Ukraine with 39 HIMARS complexes and pledged to deliver more rockets for this system to Kiev.
Ukraine has repeatedly appreciated the performance of HIMARS and Patriot, saying that these are weapons that help Kiev attack and defend effectively against Russia’s overwhelming superiority.
Over the years, Russia has repeatedly claimed to have destroyed Ukraine’s HIMARS and Patriot systems but did not provide specific evidence.
In general, the videos show that Ukraine has brought important weapons systems to areas close to the front line, only a maximum of 40km away.
Western analysts and Ukrainian sources believe that Russia improved the process of processing intelligence information when it only took a few minutes after the UAV detected the target, Moscow’s firepower opened fire to destroy them.
HIMARS and the Patriot launcher are both capable of maneuvering after firing.
In addition to HIMARS and Paitrot, Mr. Shoigu said Ukraine lost 4 Abrams tanks, 27 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, and 5 Leopard tanks.
Ukraine’s 47th Mechanized Brigade used Abrams and Bradley vehicles in fierce clashes around the Donetsk city of Avdiivka, which Russia captured in mid-February. Fighting around the area remains fierce.
According to experts, shortcomings related to camouflage and muddy terrain in Ukraine are not suitable for heavy tanks produced in the West.
On the other hand, Mr. Shoigu said that Ukraine has lost 71,000 soldiers since January.
It is difficult to accurately calculate the number of casualties in fierce combat conditions, especially when both sides will tend to announce the enemy’s losses as a psychological attack.
